MEET THE SCREENER
The Screener is Nurdle's newest addition to our fleet, a purpose-built vibrating screen designed to be towed by an excavator to dig and separate microplastics from sand in any weather, at scale.
The Machine
HOW IT WORKS
The Screener uses a unique, specially designed vibrating screen to separate nurdles, biobeads and other microplastics from sand.
The Screeners work in all weather conditions, rain, wind, or shine, and we now have a fleet of three.
On the Ground
WHERE HAS THE SCREENER BEEN?
On 19 July 2026, a collision between the Wind Orca and the container ship BG Orange at the Port of Tyne spilled an estimated 25 tonnes of plastic pellets into the water. Nurdle was deployed immediately. This is exactly what we exist for.
The team hit the ground running. Within four days we were clearing Little Haven daily, had Sandhaven around 40% done and had started on the slipway. Once the full team and kit arrived, we were working four beaches at once, including Sandhaven, South Groin, Little Haven and Long Sands, clearing the high tide marks every day and pushing further north.
In October, The Screener heads back down to Camber Sands to carry on the work that started there. Wherever the pollution is, that's where we'll be.

HIRE THE SCREENER
Our fleet of three Screeners are available to hire. They all have interchangeable mesh to deal with a variety of different pollution sizes, with fine screening cuts.
